jimerickson: Upgraded both rigs to 12 cores.

rhavern: Huzzah! Updates!

Adanorm: :) and 200k visitors

jimerickson: Congratulations rhavern!

rhavern: Quad G34s rock. Mine puts out ~600kPPD.

MarkAGR: Uh? Just woke up from my winter hibernation ... Good Morning everyone! I nearly made it 23m over the winter! I think there's a quad cpu G34 machine on it's way.

toTOW: Anyone alive ?

toTOW: Happy new year to all fellow folders :)

toTOW: Recredit has ben run ... all points should show up now :)

toTOW: Stats are down since the last network outage :(

MarkAGR: OK, so there's a 16 core minimum ... so does anyone know how to produce a 16 core virtual machine from a cluster of ubuntu boxes?

MarkAGR: Where did all thw stats go?

jimerickson: Http://bit.ly/tkpFnJ

jimerickson: 16 core minimum for bigadv. wow!

Adanorm: Hi ! We just applied patches to the site, if shoutbox goes mad, just CTRL+F5 !

jimerickson: Http://bit.ly/okqvf7

jimerickson: Happily folding smp now. and currently earning 2000ppd more than with bigadv. go figure.

jimerickson: I detest p2684, after this one is finished i am moving to smp.

Amaruk: FahCore 11 (ATI) support is scheduled to end September 1st. http://en.fah-addict.net/news/news.php?id=352

Intel logo Intel has released (or will be releasing soon) two new and slightly special processor lines.

Firstly, we find the "K" range, which would appear to be in direct competition with the the AMD Black Edition range. The processors in this range feature unlocked multipliers, which should prove very popular amongst overclockers.

The Core i5 655k is simply a Core i5 650 with an unlocked multiplier. Pricing is currently an unknown quantity, but it will likely be more expensive than its mainstream cousin due to its potential ability to be transformed into a Core i5 660, 670 or even 680 with but a little overclocking skill. The same goes for the Core i7 875k, which is a 870 with an unlocked multiplier. Both models should be officially announced during Q2, but no specific date is yet known.

Next up is the "S" range, which we see in the low-power Core i7 870S. This processor is identical to the Core i7 870, only its nominal clock frequency is lowered - probably along with its main voltage. The TDP will be 82W, in contrast to the 95W for the "K" and standard processor variants. It is planned for release later this summer and will be sold at a price higher than its standard counterpart.

Model 1 core 2 cores 3 cores 4 cores
Core i7 870 3.60 GHz 3.46 GHz 3.20 GHz 3.20 GHz
Core i7 870s 3.60 GHz 3.46 GHz 2.66 GHz 2.66 GHz

Comparison of Core i7 870 and 870S clock frequencies

Finally, on the standard processor front, the Core i5 680 has appeared instead of the 670. The 680 is manufactured on a 32nm process, and runs at a nominal frequency of 3.6GHz, an extension to 3.8GHz being made possible by the Turbo mode. The price for this processor has been announced at $284. A Core i7 880 clocked at 3.06GHz, and a Core i3 550 at 3.2GHz, are also planned.

All of these processors will be available this summer.
